Big Weekend Ahead for SOU Homecoming 2011

Football, soccer and two volleyball games in 24 hours

(Ashland, Ore.) Southern Oregon University Raiders fans will be decked out in red this weekend to celebrate Homecoming 2011. Four games are scheduled from Friday night through Saturday night, including two home games for the Raiders volleyball team, this week’s Cascade Conference Team of the Week.Activities begin tonight at 7 p.m. with a drag show sponsored by the Queer Resource Center in Diversions in the Stevenson Union.

A Raider Rally at 6 p.m. on Friday in front of McNeal Pavillion will raise everyone’s spirits for the 7 p.m. volleyball game against Corban in Bob Riehm Arena.

Saturday activities begin at 9 a.m. with the annual 2011 SOU Sports Hall of Fame induction. 2011 honorees include former volleyball coach Paul Elliott, former football standout Dusty McGrorty, former track and field and women’s basketball standout Tiwana Merritt and former football player and head coach Jeff Olson. A soccer game with College of Idaho follows at 11 a.m. on the SOU soccer field.

Football kicks off at 2 p.m. Saturday against Simon Fraser in Raider Stadium. The SOU Fan Hospitality Area, first introduced two weeks ago, will be back serving beer and wine. Proceeds from the hospitality area go to the Raider Club, the fundraising arm of SOU Athletics. Homecoming activities conclude at 7 p.m. Saturday when the volleyball team takes the court again to face NW Christian College in the Bob Riehm Arena.
